DESCRIPTION:To be formally opened by Coventry 2021 City of Culture Creative Director – Chenine Bhathena FRSA. \nThis event will be by invite only.\nEmail reflectioncoventry@gmail.com for guest list applications. \nAnother event will be staged on the 11th October open to the general public with free admission.\nWe are also looking to open in the daytime on the 10th & 11th. This will be for any schools/colleges/uni groups who wish to attend. This will be by arrangement only and will include a full guided tour of the exhibition. If you know of any school/college or uni group who would like to take advantage of this great learning opportunity please contact us at our email at the bottom of this page. \nIn June we staged our first ever exhibition\, REFLECTION#1-“A City Before Dance” at the C.E.T building in Coventry. It was a huge success with over 900 people coming to see\, hear and experience what we had to offer over the 2 days. The most successful pop -up event in the building during its 12 month run as an exhibition space. \nWe are now back. \nREFLECTION#1 – “A City Before Dance”.\nThe International Relaunch.\nInc champagne reception. \nOur exhibition will this time be hosted by The Kasbah Nightclub. In stark contrast to the industrial setting of the C.E.T building this time the setting will be a brand new futuristic night time playground.\nThe Kasbah has undergone a major transformation over the summer and we are proud to have been invited to put on our exhibition there. \nHOW THE EXHIBITION WORKS \nA journey through the 1980’s before dance music culture arrived in Coventry. Through the use of films\, audio documentaries\, press articles\, lasers\, art\, a touch of theatre and over 25 years of delivering street culture. We also will be showcasing local graffiti artists and local dj’s. \nWith Coventry becoming the City Of Culture in 2021\, we reflect on our city’s untold history. Some good\, some bad\, and to some shocking. \nWith audio documentaries made especially for this exhibition covering racism\, youth violence and football hooliganism. We aim to capture Coventry’s history from the early 1980’s through to the formative years of dance music culture in the late 1980’s. \nAlso including the screening of three films: \n1) Sound System \nA short film explaining the historical culture of Afro Caribbean sound systems and parties that happened in the midlands.\nDirected by Enda Murray and produced by Ray Henry-Reid in 1994. \n2) Parks & Wilson ‘A Hard Days Night’ \nA day in the life film of the DJ/Producer duo from Coventry who were residents at The Eclipse. This short film shows them in the daytime in a studio in Stoke-On-Trent working on a remix project\, and then travelling onto Manchester to play at Bowlers Exhibition Centre to 6\,000 people. Filmed in 1993 this film captures the early magic of the dance music revolution in all its glory.\nA Daylight Robbery Production. \n3) A Piece Of The Action \nA film that delves into Coventry\, post-recession in the late 1980’s\, and how the dance music revolution unfolded in the city. A film that has been shown on Channel 4\, MTV\, and around the world. Showing a glimpse into the foundations of The Eclipse\, and Amnesia House. Filmed in 1995.\nA Daylight Robbery Production. \nWith the audio documentaries\, have a cup of tea and biscuit\, sit in one of the listening rooms and fully immerse yourself in stories of the 1980’s\, told by the people who were there. Walk through the corridors and other rooms and you will hear recordings from different events and interviews from Coventry’s history in the early 80’s. Also newspaper articles reflecting Coventry’s history in the 1980’s.\nAudio\, visuals and films of Coventry’s history.\nA true REFLECTION. \nThis is a 21st century style exhibition.
